Profile

Software engineer with 3+ years of commercial experience at Yunex Traffic, working across the full development lifecycle on systems where reliability and safety really matter.

I hold a First-Class Honours degree from Southampton Solent University and pick up new languages and frameworks quickly — it's something I've had to do throughout my career and genuinely enjoy. Comfortable working across the stack, from low-level code through to APIs, databases, and tooling, and equally happy collaborating with hardware engineers, ops teams, or product folks. Looking for the next step where I can keep solving real engineering problems in a strong team.

  • Strong communicator across technical and non-technical teams
  • Comfortable leading small workstreams and managing project flow
  • Fast learner — always picking up new tools and technologies
  • Attention to detail around edge cases, testing, and reliability

Skills

Grouped by what they're for, with a note on where each set actually gets used.

Languages

C++ and Java are the day job — features for live production systems. The rest fill in everything around them: scripts, tooling, web, and data.

  • C++
  • Java
  • Python
  • JavaScript
  • TypeScript
  • Kotlin
  • SQL
  • HTML
  • CSS

Backend & APIs

Designing services that other systems depend on — and schemas that stay sane as they grow.

  • REST API design
  • JSON
  • Threading
  • Async
  • MySQL
  • Relational design & normalisation

DevOps & Infrastructure

Keeping the path from commit to release boring — pipelines, containers, and version control done properly.

  • Docker
  • Kubernetes
  • GitHub Actions
  • GitLab CI/CD
  • Git

Testing & QA

On safety-relevant systems, testing isn't a phase — it's most of the job.

  • Unit testing
  • Functional testing
  • Regression testing
  • Test planning
  • Automation frameworks

Data & Analytics

Making sense of what systems produce — dashboards for people, models for everything else.

  • Power BI
  • Tableau
  • TensorFlow
  • scikit-learn

Agentic AI tools

Used daily to move faster through unfamiliar codebases and pick up new patterns on the fly.

  • Claude Code
  • GitHub Copilot
  • Kiro

Ways of working

The unglamorous parts that make a team function.

  • Software documentation
  • Networking fundamentals
  • Code review
  • Sprint planning

Software Engineer

Yunex Traffic

  • Develop and maintain software for UK traffic control systems, implementing features in C++ and Java with a focus on reliability and safety.
  • Built and improved internal developer tooling and test frameworks, making the team's debugging and release process noticeably more efficient.
  • Actively use agentic AI tools — Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and Kiro — to accelerate development and explore unfamiliar codebases faster.
  • Take part in code reviews and sprint planning across software, hardware, and operations — a cross-functional setup where clear communication is essential.

Degree Apprentice — Software Engineer

Yunex Traffic

  • Joined the engineering team straight from sixth form, contributing to real production software from day one while studying for my degree in parallel.
  • Worked on system-level features and integrations, taking on progressively more ownership as my experience grew.
  • Involved in the full cycle — design, testing, and deployment — collaborating closely with hardware and operations teams throughout.
  • Graduated with a First in 2025, applying academic work in databases, algorithms, and software architecture directly to my engineering work.

NowMar 2022 – Present

Volunteer Leader

Local Sea Scouts Group

  • Plan and run weekly sessions and camps for young people aged 10–14, covering navigation, teamwork, and outdoor skills.
  • Work alongside other leaders to keep things safe, inclusive, and well-organised.
